Chris Hackett, Madagascar Institute East (Berlin) $1000

Chris Hackett, director of Madagascar Institute in Brooklyn New York, has secured a workshop and living quarters in Berlin. For those of you who attended Burning Man in 2002, you are likely familiar with their piece Creature of the Deep, see it here. Read more about the Madagascar Institute on their site. Jeff Hoefs & Peter Chester (Sound Analogous), Dreamspace $1000

Jeff & Peter have constructed a sculpture that embodies a terminal which responds with sound to the movement of a person around it. With the grant, a second sculpture will be created and placed in a location remote of the first sculpture. Through the Internet, the sculptures will be linked and participants will "communicate" with one another by responding to the sounds made by one another. To learn more about Dreamspace, click here.

Michael Moss, the Tunnel of Transformation (artist: Charlie Smith) $1000

Michael Moss is bringing Charlie Smith's latest sculptural delight, the Tunnel of Transformation, on its maiden voyage to Burning Man. After the event, Michael & Charlie will be taking the Tunnel of Transformation to it's next stop-over on its walk-about to different events. With the grant, Michael will be able to transport the Tunnel to its the yet-to-determined location which will likely be in the Southeast region of the United States. Eric Griswold, BurningSNOW Center (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) $2000

Eric, regional coordinator for Burning Man and community builder in his own right, maintains a gallery and workspace which he uses to bring folks together for workshops for building art and learning. To read about Eric's plans for the BurningSNOW Center, click here.
