Volunteer for Homouroboros

Do you know the Way to San Jose? The Monkeys Need You!

The Black Rock Arts Foundation (BRAF) is about to install Peter Hudson’s Homouroboros (aka “The Monkeys) for one month in downtown San Jose beginning May 15th, 2008. The exhibition will be free to all and open from 10 am to 11pm everyday.

Homouroboros has many moving parts. Its new audience may not be as familiar as you are with such hands-on, interactive artwork. Keeping the piece operational and open to the public is going to be a challenge but we know it will be well worth it. We'll be bringing this whimsical take on a creation myth to a community that might not experience the piece otherwise.

We propose to showcase and support this piece through you, the extraordinary community of Burning Man and Black Rock Arts Foundation supporters. We need your help to make this exhibit a success!

Please help make the public exhibition of Homouroboros an amazing experience for one of the most diverse cities in the U.S. by volunteering in one of the following capacities:

  • We have an urgent need for someone to operate a trencher. Please contact us asap!
  • Refurbish/Installation and Strike Crew ~ Work with the effervescent artist, Peter Hudson, to prepare the piece for a public setting, help set it up or help take it down.
  • Host the artwork~ Spend time facilitating delight for others by being present to help this new and potentially very diverse audience experience this wonderful work. (Most shifts are 3- hours in length and would be great for a pair of people or  a small group.  We’d love people to consider taking on a couple of shifts during the exhibition period. We’d like camps and theme camps consider adopting a whole day. We especially need volunteers available to work morning and day shifts. Enjoy the sunshine with the Monkeys!)
  • Technical~ Help keep the monkeys in motion over the month-long period. (Monitor the artwork, fix simple problems, be on call to help if something breaks.)

To volunteer, please send an email with the subject “Volunteer” to southbay@burningman.com

Thanks so much for your consideration  and support!
